Create your First Episode Series

In this series, we'll walk you through creating your first KidCitizen episode.

We've provided the photos, text, and other resources we'll use in this Dropbox folder.

If you wish, you can download them and use them to work along with the video. Or you can choose your own photo and resources.

1.Registering for your KidCitizen Account

Before starting, you'll need to register for your free KidCitizen Editor account.

This Getting Started guide will help you find your way around Author, walk you through starting your first KidCitizen activity, and give a quick overview of the KidCitizen Editor interface.

3. overview of the KidCitizen Editor User Interface.

In this video, we give a quick overview of the elements of the KidCitizen Editor User Interface, including Slides, Selection and Display Areas, Actions, and Ella the buddy character and her messages. (5:00)

 
 

4. adding and revealing your first photo, setting interactive “selection area”

We'll cover adding the first photograph, how to reveal just part of a photograph, adding message for Ella the buddy character to deliver, and "On-Start" actions, where you set up what happens when a slide is first displayed.

We'll cover placing a "Selection Area" on a photograph, and setting up what happens when a child taps on that area, including Ella's response, and collecting that part of the photo to the child's Journal. (10:00)

 
 

5. Revealing more of the photo, and Zooming In

We'll cover duplicating a slide, revealing more, and how to have children "zoom in" on an area of a photograph. (7:50)

 
 

6. Previewing, and adding images, icons, and buttons on top of photos with Display Areas.

We'll cover how to preview your work, and then how to use "Display Areas" to add interactive icons, images, text and buttons to your Episode, creating new Messages, and adding hints when child taps somewhere not expected, and more. (19:00)
