KidCitizen and March Madness!
Get ready for March Madness!
As we watch basketball games and cheer on our favorite teams, it gives us a great opportunity to reflect on the important work of Patsy Takemoto Mink, the first woman of color elected to Congress. Representative Mink was one of the lead authors and sponsors of the Title IX legislation, which opened up opportunities for women to participate in school sports.
Check out the KidCitizen Episode Welcome to Congress to introduce young learners to Patsy Takemoto Mink and segue to an engaging inquiry about women in sport.
What primary sources might you link to this learning experience? Here’s a great post on women hoopers on loc.gov.
